In 2005, Carpetright selected ICAN from SeeBeyond – later rebranded as “JCAPS” by Sun Microsystems – as their middleware technology in order to adopt an agile software infrastructure using an SOA approach. JCAPS has become an essential IT component for businesses worldwide. However, as JCAPS is no longer strategic to Oracle and are no longer marketing or supporting the technology, many organisations are faced with the prospect of a complex and costly migration to other tools and product sets. The costs are particularly exacerbated by the fact that JCAPS resources are becoming increasingly scarce in the IT marketplace.
Faced with these same middleware challenges, Carpetright realised that the quality and scope of service they were receiving for their JCAPS/SeeBeyond solutions would not be adequate going forward. And because Jason Turner, Group Head of IT at Carpetright, and his team of on-site IT professionals mainly focus on a wide range of development projects for Carpetright’s operations and networks, they typically rely on outsourcing aspects of development where it would be inefficient to have a large skill set to provide their own support, and thus do not have the personnel to service and support the solution themselves.
Integrella provided Carpetright with an alternative to a costly JCAPS middleware replacement that would have run up a bill of hundreds of thousands of pounds, extending the life of the JCAPS solution by several years. Integrella now provides 24/7, break-fix support for the full-customized JCAPS solution to a strict service level agreement. The solution is designed to enable organisations to cut support costs, improve service levels and extend the life of their investment.
In today’s complex IT environment, vendor support for individual products is not enough. Organisations like Carpetright rely heavily on the continuous operation of their systems, meaning that problems need to be fixed on the fly in order to minimise losses in productivity.
Mr Turner comments. “I appreciate Integrella’s willingness to help out, and not only in integration areas. We’ve found them to be very accommodating and supportive in the way that we wanted to plan and model how our service contract was going to look. Also, taking time to come on-site, to do thorough reviews, to make sure that the contract is living up to expectations – we found that to be incredibly useful. With Integrella, it’s all about the whole package. It’s not just about support – it’s about looking out for us, it’s about making sure that we’re aware of things coming up, and a more pro-active approach.”
